These stunning baskets are hand crafted in the villages surrounding the town of Bolgatanga in Northern Ghana. Famous for its super strong desert grass and leather working the Bolgatanga region is the centre of Ghanaian basket making. The baskets are made by villagers when they’re not growing crops or tending their herds and have become an essential source of income for the villages in this area.
Woven using grass and recycled plastic this basket can be used as a shopping basket, storage for household bits and pieces or for display.
Each item is made and designed by a single crafts person. Both men and women take part in the making and every basket has its own particular meaning that reflects something of the people, place and environment it has been made.
Every item varies in terms of shape and design. These baskets are between an average of 22-25 cm in diameter, approximately 14-16 cm from floor to rim and approximately 25 cm from floor to the top of the handle. You will receive the exact item shown on the options page.
